International Jazz sensation to launch UK tour at the Poly...|
One of the hottest sensations on the jazz scene, drummer Stanton Moore, has been confirmed to play at the Poly in Falmouth, on Thursday, 30th July 2009.
Stanton Moore, who is New Orleans born and bred, has been recently voted ‘Number 1 Jazz Drummer’ by Rhythm - the UK’s leading magazine for drummers and percussionists - and has been described by Jazz Review as ‘a master of funkified, rhythmic grooves’. Used to playing at large venues and festivals, he is launching his eagerly-awaited 2009 UK tour with an intimate set at the Poly.
Working closely with Cornish-based jazz and blues agency, Movinmusic, the Poly will also be offering a unique Drum Clinic with Stanton Moore, which is likely to prove hugely popular with music students and aspiring drummers alike. Each technique he discusses and introduces will then be illustrated in a piece performed by his brilliant trio, featuring Will Bernard on guitar and Robert Walter on Hammond organ.
Stanton Moore’s unique style is firmly rooted in the New Orleans second line parade and funk tradition. With several albums under his belt, Stanton has worked in collaboration with other artists - most famously for his contribution as part of an all-star cast of Louisiana musicians who played on the Grammy award-winning album, After the Rain, by the ‘Soul Queen of New Orleans’, Irma Thomas. Recorded at rural Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana only months after Hurricane Katrina, After the Rain has been described as a remarkable declaration of resilience. Stanton has also played with John Scofield, Dr. John, Maceo Parker, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, DJ Shadow and Corrosion of Conformity amongst many others.
“We are thrilled that Stanton Moore is coming to Falmouth” said the Poly’s general manager, Henrietta Lilley. “To have secured a musician of international calibre is very exciting - particularly one from New Orleans, the city that is considered to be the home of jazz. We are sure that jazz fans in Cornwall will definitely not want to miss this!”
Details about the event and the Drum Clinic are available on www.thepoly.org and on-line booking is available. Tickets cost £10 for the Drum Clinic, £15/12.50 concessions for the main event and there are special ticket prices for those attending both the Drum Clinic and the performance, details of which are available through contacting the Poly Box Office. Early booking is definitely recommended!
