Star & Garter / Music at the Star & Garter
Date: Apr 06, 2006 - 12:45 AM
We recorded a couple of great sets at the Star & Garter by saxophonist John Cox on 27th February, and the whole gig is now available for download...

The gig was notable for a return visit by Pip Harbon (regular drummer a few years back) who was in great form, as were Claudia, Max and John.

It was good to hear John featuring several tunes by British Jazz greats John Surman, Tubby Hayes and Stan Tracey. Complete set list:

Set 1:

  1. You'd be so nice to come to
  2. Bemsha swing (Monk)
  3. Bye bye blackbird
  4. My little suede shoes (Parker)
  5. Body and soul
  6. Willow weep for me
  7. Winter song (John Surman)

Set 2:

  1. Girl from Ipanema *
  2. Take the A Train *
  3. Off the wagon (Tubby Hayes)
  4. Emily (Johnny Mandel)
  5. Funky day in Tiger Bay (Stan Tracey)
  6. The night has a thousand eyes

* Guests Chris & Martin on trumpet and piano, Tom Jackson on drums

Here are a couple of highlights as realaudio files:
