‘First Breath’ can rightly claim to be the soundtrack to the Eden Project. Conceived during the ‘Big Build’, and four years in the making, it is a truly epic soundscape...|
Its composer, Jim Carey, is based in Cornwall but works around the world, creating music for film, theatre, radio and events.
Somewhere between a ‘concept album’ and a modern world symphony of interrelated movements, the First Breath album will appeal to classical or folk aficionados, a ‘world music’ audience, choral enthusiasts and many more besides. Within the album, Carey creates an ever-changing emotional landscape with his distinctive rhythmic and harmonic structure. The epic, orchestral and choral title track, ‘First Breath’, tells of the life struggle that man and plants share. The joyful ‘After Rain’ speaks of Carey’s Celtic roots. Hidden Bounty and Paradise showcases Carey’s own voice and distinctive use of vocal harmony and rhythm.
The First Breath album features a bonus track, which stands outside of the First Breath project – A New Day Will Come – which features prominently as the grand finale of A Time Of Gifts. Yet another coup for Carey and lyricist Annamaria Murphy, it reflects poignantly on the times in which we live while rousing a hopeful and positive view of the future.
“Jim Carey is one of Cornwall’s greatest assets. He has written music for countless films and theatre shows over the past few years and worked with the best of Cornwall’s writers, actors, musicians and directors….Jim’s music brings its own passion, its own soul, its own wonderful magic.”
Colin Rogers, Director, Cornwall Film Fund
"Jim Carey composes music that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck, that speaks of the warmth of fire and the breaking of bread…The man is a genius."
Tim Smit, Eden’s Project
