Princess Pavilion, Falmouth. Friday 26th November...|
John Otway is currently on his Greatest Hits UK Tour, stopping off at the Princess Pavilion, Falmouth on Friday 26 November. John first became notorious after an appearance on the Old Grey Whistle. He had leapt astride an amplifier and lost his footing. One leg slipped on one side of the sturdy wooden piece of musical equipment and the other leg down the other. The whole weight of Otway´s body crashed down on the most delicate parts of his body. This sort of behaviour went down exceedingly well with the punk audiences of the time, and Otway was rewarded with his first hit.
Unlike his cult following, the nation was taken by surprise in 2002 after fans had clubbed together to buy him a birthday present. When asked what he would like for his special 50th present, John decided that what he would like, most of all, was another Hit; so a quarter of a century after his first Hit, Cor Baby That´s Really Free, John Otway was back in the Top Ten in 2002 with Bunsen Burner.
Having cracked the UK, Otway has started work on becoming an international star. Realizing that he probably had enough fans to fill a Boeing 767, he is now putting together a World Tour in his own chartered Jet. The proposed tour takes in The Carnegie Hall, Caesar´s Palace Las Vegas, Sydney Opera House and The Albert Hall. ‘As well as the gigs we can have a couple of days beach holiday, a couple of days on the slopes and take in a total eclipse of the sun on the way round.’ says John. See him first at the Princess Pavilion @ 8.30pm with punk rockers Eddie & The Hot Rods in support. Tickets £10 adv / £12 door. 01326 211222.
