Truro College Big Band The Jazz Degree Big Band is drawn (by invitation) from students studying on the Truro College/Plymouth University Contemporary World Jazz Degree.
This 14-17 piece ensemble and singers was founded in 2006 and led by course leader/pianist/composer and arranger Vivian Rodd.
The ensemble has already enjoyed great success playing at many prestigious venues in the West Country. With a mixture of Swing/Fusion/Latin/Crossover/Free/Be-Bop/Ballads and Blues, this amazingly talented group of musicians will hold you spellbound and wanting more.
The library mainly comprises arrangements and originals penned by Viv to make the most out of the many talented soloists in the band.

Julian Gaskell and his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists Julian Gaskell and his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists’ music has been labeled ‘Rabble rousing gypsy skiffle’ and ‘Bourbon-soaked vaudeville gypsy hoedown punk!’ and is at the front of an exciting new scene that blends the growing interest in Eastern European and Balkans music with other western influences. Although there are only four in the band, they play more than fourteen instruments in their energetic live shows, which have been compared favourably to the likes of Gogol Bordello, the Pogues and the Clash.
