MIKE COLLINS GREAT WESTERN QUARTET
MIKE COLLINS (pn), LEN ARULIAH (sx), GREG CORDEZ (db), PIP HARBON (dm)
Stepping in at the last minute and saving our bacon after a monumental administrative cock-up, Bath-based pianist Mike Collins returns leading a quartet, all of whom are bandleaders in their own right. They play a set with their own distinctive take on some classic jazz tunes, along with a sprinkling of originals from Collins himself and London-based saxophonist Len Aruliah. They are joined by the formidable Greg Cordez on bass from Bristol and Cornwall's own Pip Harbon completing the Great Western connection.
Mike Collins has been busy gigging and touring in the South West and Wales for twenty years. His recent release of his distinctive brand of lyrical and melodic jazz, 'And Suddenly Evening' has been widely and warmly reviewed nationally. Len Aruliah grew up in Vancouver and still divides his time between Canada and playing on London's dynamic jazz scene. UK-born, New Zealand-raised, Cordez has lived and worked in London, Madrid, and New York City. A busy bassist, composer and educator he is now settled in the vibrant Bristol music scene leading his own bands and is a leading light in the Bristol Composers' Collective. Pip Harbon has played at the club innumerable times since its inception and is the go to drummer for any visiting musician with any sense.
