Music at the Star & Garter We've had some excellent new soloists at the Star & Garter lately - Marc Hadley (alto) and Mike Higgs (trombone)...

We hope to have some sample tracks from Mike's recent gig at the S&G in the downloads section soon. We also recorded Marc's gig, but unfortunately it didn't come out (dead battery in my mic extension) - a shame as the whole band was playing really well behind his wailing funky alto sax.

Brian Stanley of St Ives Jazz Club sent us the following pic and words:

"Playing for a living in London, Paris and Rotterdam since 1985, Marc was a member of latin dance circuit success 'Viramundo' for eight years, toured with a Jon Taylor big band project in the baritone chair, played at the Montreux Festival and since 1997 has recorded two albums as a featured soloist, and another as composer. Despite having a very eclectic range of involvements and interests outside jazz, he still has a love for Bop and Blue Note, and puts forward his interpretations of standard tunes with an inflexion rooted in school bands c. mid 1970s 'The days when Junior Walker, Robert Wyatt, Grover Washington and Elton Dean still roamed free across the vinyl prairies.' "
