I was so pleased to catch the Dubious Brothers at the Waterfront last night.
Rick's lead and vocals, Helm's keyboard and Pip's perc were all that I expected but the rest of the band were a revelation. Nigel and Ian, two sax virtuuosi, Ian too on bass and Harry on rhythm. Johnny Big, too, who kept the decks humming on the break.
The ensemble, who come together all too rarely, packed the pub and kept it rocking til midnight. A truly fabulous night.
This was my third consecutive night out - a very rare occurrence - but I was out again on Thursday to catch some of the Truro College talent at the WF and a bit of Small Wonder at The Watermans, also back at the WF on Saturday.
Jake Jones and Ollie did a useful set but Shame Academy caught the attention with some gutsy numbers and excellent vocals. I'll be looking out for them again.
Benno reminded me that it's nearly a year since we lost Bronson - hope to do something to mark the anniversary - watch this space!
